I do love boutique hotels. They are different to the luxurious five-star hotels I usually book but they also offer a very different experience. As, indeed, does the Dog and Fox in Wimbledon Village, London. While it’s actually a very nice pub, located right in the heart of beautiful Wimbledon Village, it is also a hotel and offers seventeen exquisite rooms. As a Young’s pub, it obviously serves great quality food and a good selection of booze, but the rooms top the lot.
While all the rooms have the character you would expect from Wimbledon’s oldest pub, they are beautifully refurbished and each one has a different theme. I had the Fox Suite because – well, I just had to with that name, right? Not only was it the general manager’s favourite room, but I fell absolutely in love with it. It has the English country cottage feel at its best and is in a London postcode. My heart skipped a beat when I entered.
I’ve known the Dog and Fox for many years. It was actually one of my locals when I lived in the Village and it never let me down. Whether you’re looking for a boozy afternoon or a nice Sunday roast (try the pork belly!), you should visit the pub and the restaurant, too.
The Wimbledon Tennis Club is only a few minutes from the Dog and Fox. Just be aware that the village can go crazy at this time and you probably won’t have a quiet night. But if it’s too loud to sleep, you can still test out the amazing bathtub all night long. The huge champagne bottle right next to it should help you out. Gin-Gin!
